Τι κυκλοφόρησαν οι φωστήρες της Videosonic…πολύ μπροστά!

Ταινία ορόσημο για το συμπαθή κλάδο των ταχυμεταφορέων,των οποίων ο εκπρόσωπος στο παρόν είχε κολλήσει ένσημα στο Βιετνάμ,το παρόν είναι για κλωτσιές γυριστές.Αφαιρετικό,αφού μεταξύ άλλων,στην ταινία τα όπλα δεν πυροβολούν παρά μόνο παράγουν κρότο .Υπερβίαιο,αλλά τόσο κακοφτιαγμένο που ξεπερνάει τα όρια της άρπα-κόλλας.Σκηνοθετημένο μόνο στα “χαρτιά”(στα opening credits)και ερμηνευμένο με τρόπο που με κάνει να ξύνω το κεφάλι μου με απορία,το “Courier of Death” κερδίζει σε καλτιά λόγω τίτλου,αλλά τεμαχίζει σάρκες με ορμή θεριζοαλωνιστικής μηχανής σε Ουκρανικό σιτοβολώνα και καίει μυαλά αβέρτα…

Θυσία στο Μολώχ της έβδομης (της ποιάς?) τέχνης για άλλη μια νύχτα.Με βρήκε μπόσικο,το παραδέχομαι,αλλά δεν το μετανιώνω…

Φέσι πλουμιστό…δίνει μια νέα διάσταση στις ταινίες εκδίκησης.

Joey Johnson is a Vietnam veteran who now works for a very important courier service that delivers very important things on behalf of very important people. After he and his partner are robbed of $77,000,000 dollars worth of bonds and his wife is kidnapped and killed, he decides to get out of the business–but an old Army buddy convinces him that the money was stolen by a group of fascists conspiring to take over the government. It’s up to our hero to infiltrate the plot and save the nation.

Holy mother of video absurdities!This one is so bad that has to be seen(the irony).This mutation of IFD Films cinematic atrocities and AIP films bad action extravaganza manages to top the creations of both semi-legendary studios in terms of unbearably bad movie making.To make a long story short,this film reeks of non-acting,budget restrictions,badly staged action scenes,over-the-top,but simultaneously unconvincing, violence,continuity errors.It’s a bloody mess & a bloody riot at the same time

I am perplexed and here comes the dilemma:Either dumping the cheap Vhs I scored or building a shrine and worshiping the immortal hilarious stupidity of the “Courier of Death”.

Όσο σινεσκουπίδι και να δει ο γράφων,με όση βιντεοπαρωδία και να έχει μαγαρίσει το σεπτό του Βίντεο,έρχεται πάντα εκείνη η στιγμή που θα αφεθεί γαλήνιος στα χάδια εκλεκτών φιλμικών απολαύσεων.Μια τέτοια στιγμή, που γίνεται αντιληπτό οτι έχεις απέναντί σου μια πραγματικά καλή ταινία,ήταν η αρχική σεκάνς του “The Pyjama Girl Case”,όπως φυσικά και αυτές που ακολούθησαν.

Το παρόν φίλμ ξεδιπλώνει αργά τις αρετές του.Όντας σεναριακά άρτιο τυλίγει το θεατή αργά πλήν σταθερά στον ιστό της αφήγησής του,με τις ερμηνείες των ηθοποιών να συμβάλλουν τα μέγιστα στη επιτυχία του εγχειρήματος.Ιδιαίτερη μνεία πρέπει να δοθεί στην ερμηνεία ζωής που εκμαίευσε ο Flavio Mogherini από την, σε γενικές γραμμές,υποκριτικά αδιάφορη Dalila Di Lazzaro.

Επίσης όλα τα λεφτά είναι ο τρόπος με τον οποίον ο σκηνοθέτης διαχειρίζεται την πλοκή του,μπλέκοντας εξαιρετικά τις δύο παράλληλες ιστορίες,καταργώντας κατά αυτόν τον τρόπο τον κινηματογραφικό χρόνο και τη συνέχειά του.Αυτή την τεχνική την βρίσκει κανείς σε πολύ μεταγενέστερες δημιουργίες,ας συγχαρούμε λοιπόν το σκηνοθέτη για την τόλμη του και τη διορατικότητά του.Οπτικά η ταινία είναι άψογη και εκτός από τη αρχική σκηνή ανθολογίας,μας προσφέρει άλλη μια σεκάνς γροθιά στο στομάχι,σε αυτήν έμπλέκονται:Ένα γυμνό γυναικείο σώμα,ένα γυάλινο ενυδρείο γεμάτο φορμόλη,το αδηφάγο πλήθος και πολύ καλλιτεχνική διάθεση από σκηνοθέτη και διευθυντή φωτογραφίας.

Ταινία υπόδειγμα αστυνομικού giallo thriller,φίλμ με ένα κάρο αρετές,έργο που αφήνει μια αίσθηση πληρότητας στον απαιτητικό θεατή.Το  “La ragazza dal pigiama giallo” αξίζει να αναζητηθεί και να θεαθεί από όλους τους οπαδούς του ποιοτικού Ευρωπαικού genre cinema.

Two seemingly separate stories in New South Wales: a burned, murdered body of a young woman is found on the beach, and a retired inspector makes inquiries; also, Linda, a waitress and ferry attendant, has several lovers and marries one, but continues seeing the others. The police have a suspect in the murder, but the retired inspector is convinced they’re wrong; he continues a methodical investigation. Linda and her husband separate, and there are complications. Will the stories cross or are they already twisted together?

Spectacularly plotted and stylishly made giallo thriller set in Australian location. Mogherini provides the viewer with several pieces of a puzzle that slowly form the hideous image of a crime of passion.Needless to say that the patient Euro cult enthusiast will be delighted to discover the virtues of great narrative,impressive performances(Dalila Di Lazzaro acts in an unusually superb manner,literally as if there was no tomorrow),impeccable cinematography and breathtaking climax.

This gem of a film is a glorious victory and only strengthens my credo that Genre films can be carriers of great cinematic pleasures.A feast for the senses…

 

Hanging Heart (1983)

Γενικόλογο και αναίμακτο θρίλερ το οποίο μπλέκει τον απατηλό χώρο του θεάματος με την ψυχοπαθολογία και το πασπαλίζει αφ’ενός με έριδες που θυμίζουν σαπουνόπερα,αφ’ετέρου με λεπτομέρειες δικαστικού δράματος βγαλμένες κατευθείαν από βαρετό επεισόδιο του Μάτλοκ.Όπως και να’χει η φόρμουλα δεν λειτουργεί παρά το γεγονός οτι μερικές σκηνές φλας μπάκ έχουν ένα σχετικό ενδιαφέρον.

Δεν ξέρω σε ποιους μπορεί να αρέσει μια ταινία που λέει με εντελώς επίπεδο τρόπο τα ίδια ακριβώς πράγματα με εκατοντάδες άλλες ταινίες.Ενώ δεν είναι το κλασσικό παράδειγμα απαράδεκτης σεναριακά ιστορίας,παρ’όλα αυτά δε νομίζω να αφορά σχεδόν κανέναν.

Δικαίως πανάγνωστη,αγοράστηκε από το γράφοντα μόνο και μόνο για τον υπερτράς Ελληνικό βιντεοτίτλο.Προσπεράστε…

Denny is a struggling actor whose girlfriend’s dead body is found in the theater where they have been preparing for their new production. Being one of many suspects, Denny must track down the killer as others around him are found dead one by one. Can he unmask the killer before his own life is turned upside down?

Painfully obscure and relatively bloodless erotic thriller that mostly dwells in the realms of visual boredom but it also offers a few perverse details about the protagonist’s dark past.Alas the tense and the qualitative moments are few and far between.I get the constant impression that “Hanging Heart” is a twisted version of a TV soap opera like “The Bold and the Beautiful” and this is definitely not a good thing.Undoubtedly not the worst film you’ll ever encounter,but far too generic to make the viewer revel in enthusiasm.

There isn’t any particular reason to watch this one,if you aren’t a die-hard collector of B-Movie obscurities.Some films are destined to stay obscure no matter what.

Maniac Cop (1988)

Μάτ Κορντέλλ,ένα όνομα θρύλος για την αστυνομία της Νέας Υόρκης.Ένα υπόδειγμα αστυνομικού,ο οποίος παγιδεύτηκε από τους εχθρούς του στο σώμα και ταπεινωμένος φυλακίστηκε στο Σίγκ-Σιγκ ανάμεσα σε άτομα τα οποία ο ίδιος συνέλαβε και οδήγησε στη στενή.Μοιραία οι θανάσιμοι εχθροί του στήνουν στον Κορντέλλ δολοφονική ενέδρα στα ντούς των φυλακών και τον σκοτώνουν ή μήπως όχι?Χρόνια μετά ένας άνδρας ντυμένος με στολή αστυνομικού σπέρνει τον πανικό και δολοφονεί αδιακρίτως αγνώστους στη Νέα Υόρκη.Μήπως το πνεύμα του Κορντέλλ επέστρεψε με άγριες διαθέσεις?

Η ίδια η ιδέα ενός απέθαντου μπάτσου με υπερφυσικές ικανότητες και δολοφονικές τάσεις εμπεριέχει ήδη έναν κανιβαλισμό από μόνη της και κλείνει το μάτι στο θεατή ώστε να μην πάρει την ταινία και πολύ στα σοβαρά.Παρ’όλα αυτά το δίδυμο Λάστιγκ-Κοέν μόνο τυχαίο δεν είναι.Η σκηνοθεσία του Λάστιγκ(Maniac,Vigilante)παραμένει έξοχη καθ’όλη τη διάρκεια της ταινίας και το σενάριο του Κοέν είναι φύσει και θέσει αιρετικό και αναρχικό,παρά τα επώδυνα κλισέ περί αστυνομικής διαφθοράς.Το υπερκάστ δίνει τον καλύτερό του εαυτό,ενώ στα επιτεύγματα των συντελεστών καταγράφεται το γεγονός πως παρά τις χιουμοριστικές της πινελιές,ουδέποτε η ταινία ξεπέφτει στο σημείο του να γίνει μια κωμωδία τρόμου της χειρότερης υποστάθμης,όπως π.χ άπειρες ταινίες της Troma.

Η βία είναι καλοφτιαγμένη και ενίοτε χτυπά χωρίς ιδιαίτερη σεναριακή προπαρασκευή σε τυχαία στιγμιότυπα εντός της πλοκής,γεγονός που εκπλήσει το θεατή(βλέπε δολοφονία αστυφύλακα από γυναίκα μέσα σε χαλασμένο αυτοκίνητο)και τον κάνει να αναπηδήσει στο κάθισμά του.Γοητευτικό αυτό το στοιχείο στο σινεμά του Λάστιγκ,την ίδια τεχνική εκμεταλλεύτηκε και στο Maniac,δημιουργώντας το καλύτερο,κατά το γράφοντα,slasher όλων των εποχών.

Η Νέα Υόρκη παραμένει ένα φανταστικό location για exploitation κινηματογράφο,αλλά αυτό δεν είναι κάτι καινούριο,αφού ο γράφων έχει δηλώσει επενειλημμένα την αγάπη του για τις ταινίες που έχουν γυριστεί στο παρηκμασμένο και αιωνίως απειλητικό Μεγάλο Μήλο των δεκαετιών ’70 και ’80.

Ταινία που έχει αποκτήσει cult following και ακολουθήθηκε από σειρά σήκουελ σίγουρα δεν χρειάζεται την έγκρισή μου προκειμένου να τη δει κάποιος.Οι οπαδοί του κάλτ τρόμου ξέρουν τι να κάνουν.

 

 

Innocent people are being brutally murdered on the streets of New York City by a uniformed police officer. As the death toll rises and City Hall attempts a cover-up, Frank McCrae heads the investigation. A young cop, Jack Forrest, finds himself under arrest as the chief suspect, having been the victim of a set-up by the real killer and a mysterious woman phone-caller. Forrest, his girlfriend Theresa, and McCrae set out to solve the puzzle before the Maniac Cop can strike again.

Semi-classic slasher flick about an undead murderous cop penned by the creative duet of :William Lustig & Larry Cohen.

According to my opinion,the combination of factors such as:A relatively original storyline,well-written script(the narration regarding Cordell’s incarceration where pieces of the plot start falling together is nothing short of magnificent),a semi-humorous approach,the imposing New York locations,a great B-movie cast ranging from the original “Shaft” character Richard Roundtree to Bruce Campbell of “Evildead” fame and last but not least the presence of some very intense and atmospheric violent sequences make this movie a victory.

Additionally,never does the movie fall into the campy horror/comedy category that much,despite the fact that the storyline definitely contains some corny and cheesy elements.Luckily the film remains for the most part menacing and effective.

Ή αλλιώς Φιλιππίνες φτώχεια και φιλότιμο…

Η συνέχεια ενός ημικλασσικού Italo action με έναν Fred Williamson να βαριέται τη ζωή του και να διεκπεραιώνει απλά συμπαθητικά σε ένα φτωχό σε συγκινήσεις πλήν αμυδρά ενδιαφέρον για τους Ιταλόφιλους,ταινιάκι δράσης.

Η υπηρεσία στέλνει το σκληρό μπάτσο Robert Malone (Fred Williamson) στις Φιλιππίνες σε επιμορφωτική αποστολή.Με το που πατάει το πόδι του στους δρόμους της Μανίλα(pun intended)ο Malone δεν μπορεί να κρατηθεί μακριά από τα μπλεξίματα.Σύντομα όλη η μαφία θα μάθει πως δεν πρέπει να μπλέκει κανείς με έναν χαλκέντερο μπάτσο απ’το Σικάγο.

Η ταινία ξεκινά αρκετά άνευρα και συνεχίζει τις χαμηλές πτήσεις έως το τελευταίο εικοσάλεπτο όπου ο γιός του μεγάλου Antonio Margheritti,Edoardo που σκηνοθετεί, αποφασίζει να δημιουργήσει μερικές σοβαρές σκηνές δράσης.Φτηνό κόλπο…

Οι λάτρες των ταινιών γυρισμένων στο νησιωτικό σύμπλεγμα των Φιλιππίνων και οι φανατικοί του Eurotrash θα το δουν οτι και να γράψω εγώ.Αφού και εγώ έκατσα και το είδα στην τελική…Απλά μην περιμένετε τίποτα το φαντασμαγορικό.Εξαιρείται το θεικό soundtrack…

Ελαφρά καλύτερο από το σαρκοβόρο “Fox Trap” αλλά όχι τίποτα το εξαιρετικό…

Chicago cop Robert Malone (Fred Williamson) finds himself in The Philippines, ostensibly to learn the techniques of Interpol. Before he exits the Manila airport, his wallet is stolen by a pickpocket. Malone endures a testy relationship with his new colleague Kevin McCall while evidence surrounding the stolen wallet pulls both of them deeper and deeper into a web of intrigue.

 

Piss-poor action romp set in Philippines, featuring an obviously bored and disinterested Fred Williamson.

The stunning soundtrack that accompanies the Chicago footage during the opening credits made me believe that I might have to deal with something of relative interest,much to my dismay “Black Cobra 2” viewing is only justifiable if someone is a die-hard fan of late 80ies Italian action flicks,especially those which were shot in Philippines.

The movie starts in a very talky way and little action is involved until the movie hits the 50 min. mark.Until then the viewer’s interest is likely to have drifted away.Additionally,the so-called action scenes feature a mostly very stiff Williamson and are executed in a hilariously bad way.

Anyway,this is almost a trainwreck…addressed to die-hard fans of late 80ies Italo action exclusively.

Split Second(1992)

Σε ένα πλημμυρισμένο και μολυσμένο του κερατά, φουτουριστικό Λονδίνο, ο σκληρός μπάτσος Harley Stone(Hauer) προσπαθεί να εντοπίσει πλάσμα αγνώστου ταυτότητος (γκουχ, “Predator”,γκουχ)το οποίο δολοφόνησε τον πρώην συνεργάτη του και απειλεί τη μνηστή του (Kim Cattrall ναι αυτή…την ιέρεια της μεταμοντέρνας γυναικείας χειραφέτησης από το Sex & the City).H υπηρεσία δεν τον γουστάρει το Stone και του φορτώνει νέρντ και υποχόνδριο νέο συνεργάτη ονόματι Ντικ Ντέρκιν (Alastair Duncan).Το ντουέτο των μπάτσων έρχεται σχεδόν πρόσωπο με πρόσωπο με το πλάσμα και οι ευρισκόμενοι σε παραλήρημα τρόμου, ήρωές μας συνειδητοποιούν  οτι χρειάζονται “μεγαλύτερα γαμημένα όπλα”(ατάκα της ταινίας χαλαρά).

Φανταστικά locations,ένας υπερκούλ ντυμένος στα δερμάτινα Rutger Hauer,ένα ωραίο τερατάκι,ξαδερφάκι δημιουργημάτων από άλλες ταινίες,καταιγιστικός ρυθμός,όμορφη φωτογραφία και ένας Tony Maylam(“The Burning” στη σκηνοθεσία που μόνο τυχαίος δεν είναι,συντελούν στη δημιουργία μιας ταινίας που ενώ δεν είναι πρωτότυπη,παρ’όλα αυτά σε διασκεδάζει με έναν ανάλαφρο μπιμουβάδικο τρόπο.

In a futuristic London, the rising sea levels mean that large areas are under feet of water. Hauer plays a cop who previously lost his partner to some strange creature. Now the creature is back and its after him.

Cool early 90ies sci-fi/post-apocalypse entry directed by Tony Maylam of “The Burning” fame and featuring the ever great Rutger Hauer and the deity of post-modern feminism Kim Cattrall (Police Academy,Sex & the City).

Maylam was fortunate enough to have his movie well budgeted,a factor which resulted in “Split Second” looking nothing short of great in an unparalleled early 90ies way.The flooded London locations are breathtaking and Hauer’s hardboiled character named Harley Stone is extremely entertaining to watch,as he looks slick in his leather apparel and his performance has a cartoonish quality(I don’t mean this as a derogatory characterization).Stone’s associate Dick Durkin(well…)played by Alastair Duncan is another character that the viewer can actually care about.He is a tad more sophisticated than Stone,hence they make a nice team together.

Of course the movie can hardly be called an original conception,the “loans” by other Alien & sci-fi entries are too apparent to ignore and the climax is way too predictable to make the average fan tremble with excitement,but it’s a very slick looking and well-paced movie,let alone it has Rutger Hauer star in it….

Σουρρεαλιστικά κακό ταινιάκι τρόμου το οποίο πραγματεύεται την κλασσική σύμβαση του στοιχειωμένου σπιτιού με μια εσάνς μαγείας Βουντού και τρασο-φλάσμπάκ στον Αμερικάνικο νότο την εποχή που η Δουλεία ήταν στο απόγειό της.

To να καταγράψουμε και να αναφέρουμε πόσα λάθη και πόση προχειρότητα υπάρχουν εδώ μέσα είναι μάταιο,ας τονίσουμε απλά οτι εάν καταφέρετε να διαβείτε το Ρουβίκωνα του σχετικά ακίνδυνου και χιλιοειπωμένου πρώτου 45άλεπτου,τότε θα ανταμειφθείτε με ένα εξωφρενικό δεύτερο μισό,όπου σεναριογράφος,σκηνοθέτης,special fx artist και ηθοποιοί πέφτουν στη μαρμίτα με το LSD και μας προσφέρουν συγκλονιστικές στιγμές κακού gore,ειδικών εφφέ που δεν τρομάζουν ούτε τη 18 μηνών κόρη μου,αφηγηματικής αναπηρίας και κατακρεούργησης της υποκριτικής τέχνης.Όλα τα προαναφερθέντα φυσικά έχουν πλάκα κάνοντας το παρόν να θυμίζει τεκέδες όπως το “Grotesque” ή το “Death by Dialogue.

Psychiatrist David Young buys an old mansion in Charlesburg once owned by slave trader George Masterson. He moves in with his girlfriend, pop singer Kate Christopher, a former patient who is recovering from a nervous breakdown. Kate soon discovers that the house is haunted and experiences strange apparitions. She thinks that she might be going mad but also believes that Masterson, who was killed by a voodoo curse placed on him by his slaves, is starting to possess David.

Totally obscure and painfully low budget entry into the haunted house film territory that would be totally unwatchable if it wasn’t for the over-the-top last part of the film.The first 45 minutes are along the lines of zillions of other films,let alone of piss poor quality,hence the unsuspected yet courageous viewer will never see the completely nuts climax coming.

The last part of the film borders with psychedelia and makes me believe that the scriptwriter-director team were  probably under the influence when they were scripting/shooting the last part of the film.Let me not spoil the FUN of it.As it has to be seen to be believed.

Terror Eyes(1981) aka “Night School”

Είναι τουλάχιστον ευχάριστο να βλέπεις μια ταινία μετά από δώδεκα χρόνια και με ευχαρίστηση να διαπιστώνεις οτι εξακολουθεί να κουβαλάει όλες τις αρετές που σε έκαναν τότε να ερωτευτείς παράφορα τον κινηματογράφο τρόμου και το genre cinema εν γένει.

Το “Terror Eyes” είναι ένα απειλητικό και δυσοίωνο φίλμ που θυμίζει πολλά από το πρώιμο σινεμά του Ferrara και από ταινίες σαν το “Maniac” και το “New York Ripper”.Το περιβάλλον της Βοστώνης αποδεικνύεται σχεδόν εξίσου εχθρικό με το αντίστοιχο της Νέας Υόρκης,το οποίο έχει δώσει επανειλημμένα τροφή στους εφιάλτες μας.

Ας δούμε όμως λίγο την πλοκή

Ένας μυστηριώδης δολοφόνος αποκεφαλίζει κατ’εξακολούθησιν και με στυγερό τρόπο νεαρές γυναίκες.Όλα τα θύματα είχαν ένα κοινό,σπούδαζαν στο νυχτερινό τμήμα του Κολλεγίου Γουέντελ.Ο επιθεωρητής Ώστιν παλεύει να ξετυλίξει το κουβάρι της υπόθεσης αλλά μήπως βρίσκεται μπροστά σε μια υπόθεση που κρύβει πολλά περισσότερα απ’όσα αποκαλύπτει?

Η πλοκή μπορεί να είναι κλισαρισμένη όσο δεν πάει,αλλά η φανταστική σκηνοθεσία-φωτογραφία,η καλοκουρδισμένη ατμόσφαιρα,οι έντονες ψυχοσεξουαλικές προεκτάσεις της παράλληλης πλοκής και οι στιβαρές ερμηνείες από τους Leonard Mann και  Rachel Ward δημιουργούν μια ταινία της οποίας η αύρα έκανε τους λογοκριτές του BBFC να χάσουν τη γή κάτω απ’τα πόδια τους,Μοιραία η ταινία μπήκε στη λίστα των περιβόητων video Nasties και απαγορεύτηκε στη Γηραιά Αλβιώνα.

Πολλά περισσότερα από ένα Video Nasty της σειράς το “Terror Eyes” είναι ένα crime/slasher με πολλές επιρροές από τα gialli της εποχής (Argento)το οποίο αψηφά αψηφά περήφανα τα σημάδια του χρόνου.Ο γράφων έχει ιδιαίτερη σχέση μαζί του καθώς είναι από τα πρώτα slasher που του χαράκωσαν το μυαλό,εσείς ανακαλύψτε το οπωσδήποτε…

 

A Boston police detective investigates a series of gruesome decapitations of various college coeds committed by a helmeted, black-leather clad serial killer which leads him to suspect a well known anthropology professor as well as his female live-in assistant.

Great American Giallo/whodunit that mostly gets pigeonholed as slasher.Yes it could also be called a slasher,but it owes way too many of its virtues to the Italian school of Film making that has been giving us food for nightmares since the late Sixties.

The premises are very predictable and the plot is extremely easy to follow but the atmosphere is extremely gritty ,even disturbing.The murder scenes (amplified by an excellent cinematography and direction)are very graphic,especially for the time this film was released and the lead performances by Leonard Mann and especially Rachel Ward are pretty darn convincing.

The Boston location is proved to be a more than decent environment for the black leather clad and motorcycle helmet wearing killer and the urban decay is portrayed in very downbeat way for one more time.

This is tamer than “New York Ripper” or “Maniac” for example, but is nonetheless an almost great,despite its flaws,film.Ignore the predictable narrative and go for the atmosphere and the thrills of watching such a visceral film.You will have a great ride,rest assured…

Άλλη μια σπουδή του Rollin πάνω στην εύθραυστη φύση της γυναίκας και πάνω στην αδυναμία του ανθρώπου να ορίσει το μέλλον του,το “Night of the Hunted” διαδραματίζεται σε ένα ψυχρό,φουτουριστικό αστικό τοπίο και τα εσωτερικά του πλάνα είναι γυρισμένα μέσα σε κάτι που παραπέμπει σε σωφρωνιστικό κατάστημα,αλλά είναι στην πραγματικότητα ψυχιατρική κλινική.

Αρκετό γυμνό,arthouse αισθητική,παρά τους περιορισμούς του προυπολογισμού,κλειστοφοβική ατμόσφαιρα,παρουσία κάποιων αξιομνημόνευτων αιματοβαμμένων σκηνών ανθολογίας,η παρουσία της θεότητας Brigitte Lahaie στον πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο,οι κλασικοί έρποντες ρυθμοί του Rollin και ένα συγκλονιστικό φινάλε κάνουν και αυτήν την ταινία απαραίτητο απόκτημα για τους οπαδούς του ξεχωριστού αυτού Γάλλου δημιουργού και τους ζηλωτές του Euro Cult.

A woman is taken to a mysterious clinic whose patients have a mental disorder in which their memories and identities are disintegrating as a result of a strange environmental accident.

In a Surreal and futuristic world Rollin comes up with another metaphor regarding the fragility of the human nature the tragic overtones of unconditional love,the complete lack of free will in a post-modern Orwellian world and filters all the aforementioned elements under his well-known prism.A prism that is characterized by an obsession with the female body,the female frailty and some over the top gore juxtaposed with a gloomy photography and his usual arthouse compositions.

Some might claim that Rollin’s cinema is painfully slow and incoherent.According to my opinion Rollin’s cinematic language was nothing less than a product of a true genius.His style is too distinctive to ignore and his movies are too beautiful to pass unnoticed.

This one leans more on the Horror genre and it’s a tad inferior to movies like “The living dead girl” or “The grapes of death”,but it’s almost a masterpiece as well and its final scene is haunting…

Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers

 Είμαστε όλοι C.h.u.ds,άλλοι λιγότερο, άλλοι περισσότερο. Μολυσμένοι, αλλοτριωμένοι και εκμαυλισμένοι από μηχανισμούς που δεν ελέγχουμε. Μεταλλαγμένοι καταναλωτές υλικών αγαθών-σκουπιδιών και όταν πλέον δε θα  είμαστε χρήσιμοι σε αυτούς που μας εξέθρεψαν, ωσάν βοοειδή θα φάμε μια με τη βαριοπούλα κατακέφαλα ή εν προκειμένω, θ’ανοίξει κάποιος τη στρόφιγγα του γκαζιού και θα μας κάνει να σκάσουμε σαν ποντίκια, εκεί κάτω, στους υπονόμους που έχουμε κάνει σπίτια μας…(spoiler alert και τα λοιπά…)

 Υπάρχουν παρίες σε κάθε κοινωνία. Άλλοι olvidados δολοφονούνται από τάγματα θανάτου, άλλοι πεθαίνουν, βορά στον μολώχ της πρέζας και ούτω καθ’εξής…Τι σχέση έχουν όλα αυτά τα βαρύγδουπα που θυμίζουν μανιφέστο, με την θεική Αμερικάνικη κάλτ σκουπιδοταινία τρόμου του 1984 που παρουσίαζεται σήμερα στο blog…μάλλον καμία…

 Προβοκάτσια του γράφοντος…

 Το C.h.u.d είναι μια αποτελεσματικότατη και χορταστικότατη κάλτ υπερδημιουργία που δεν έχει να ζηλέψει τίποτα από trash εποποιίες σαν το “Rats” του Mattei ή το “Panico(Bakterion)” του Tonino Ricci.

 A rash of bizarre murders in New York City seems to point to a group of grotesquely deformed vagrants living in the sewers. A courageous policeman, a photo journalist and his girlfriend, and a nutty bum, who seems to know a lot about the creatures, band together to try and determine what the creatures are and how to stop them.

 C.H.U.D is a quintessential cult horror flick that has stood the test of time in an impressive manner.

 The tongue n’ cheek factor,the tacky effects,the crazy storyline and the cool performances by the cast make this one a very complete viewing experience…

Additionaly,the Jersey City locations,the dark(almost)underlit cinematography and some cool sequences,like the shower scene make C.H.U.D really memorable.

 Fans of 80ies horror will have a blast
