O Φίλιπ είναι επαγγελματίας φονιάς με δράση σ’ολη την Ευρώπη.Επιστρέφει στην πατρίδα του ,το Χονγκ Κονγκ για να εκτελέσει ενα συμβόλαιο θανάτου,παράλληλα συναντά και τον αδελφό του Τζάκι που τυγχάνει αστυνομικός.

Παρά το γεγονός οτι τα δύο αδέρφια βρίσκονται σε αντίπαλα στρατόπεδα,ο Φίλιπ έχει μεγάλη αδυναμία στον αδελφό του.Κι έτσι όταν ο Τζάκι βρεθεί αντιμέτωπος με δυο απ’τους πιο επικίνδυνους “νονούς” του Χονγκ Κονγκ,θα έχει έναν απροσδόκητο σύμμαχο,τον κακοποιό αδελφό του.

Αλλά ο υπόκοσμος δε συγχωρεί.Ο Φίλιπ θα πρέπει να πληρώσει.

Άλλο ένα έπος από τον παραγωγό των συγκλονιστικών trash επιτυχιών Godfrey Ho και την IFD Films & arts ltd.(τι θεός!!!).Προς αποφυγή παρεξηγήσεων,στο παρόν δεν εμφανίζεται ο κακόμοιρος Richard Harrisson.Μάλλον ο Ho τον λυπήθηκε και δεν έβαλε πλάνα του και εδώ.Βέβαια,ο Αμερικανός τιτάνας του b-movie εμφανίζεται στο πόνημα “majestic thunderbolt” της ίδιας χρονιάς.Τι να λέμε για την περίπτωση Harrisson και Godfrey Ho…για να μην κουράσω παραπέμπω εδώ:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godfrey_Ho

Το παρόν μπορεί να μην έχει Harrison,αλλά είναι της κλασσικής σουρεαλιστικής λογικής της IFD films:Κάκιστο αγγλικό dubbing,χαρακτήρες χαλκομανίες,σεναριακό χάος ,λόγω ύπαρξης σκηνών copy paste από άλλες ταινίες και γενικότερο “μακελειό”.

Αν θέλετε η ταινία σας να περιέχει σκηνές όπου:Aστυνομικός σκύλος μυρίζει οπίσθια γυμνών γυναικών,κακός προβαίνει σε body painting γυναίκας και στα καπάκια σε βασανισμό της με τοποθέτηση νεογέννητων θαλάσσιων χελώνων στο γυμνό της σώμα,hitman να προσπαθεί να παγιδεύσει έτερο hitman με καρότσι που υποτίθεται οτι περιέχει μωρό ενω στην πραγματικότητα είναι παγιδευμένο με εκρηκτικά,πρωτοπαλίκαρο ναρκοσυμμορίας βασανίζει προδοτικό μέλος με βραστό νερό από ντουζιέρα και πολλά άλλα τέτοια απίθανα,τότε καλώς ήλθατε στον θαυμαστό κόσμο του Godfrey Ho.Σοβαροφανείς,τα κουβαδάκια σας και σ’άλλη παραλία.

To νου σας το αφιέρωμα δε σταματάει εδω… you have been warned…

Absolute nonsensical FUN,courtesy of Godfrey Ho’s IFD films & arts.

The unsuspected viewers will witness:The torture of a naked body painted woman with newborn sea turtles,rough sex,exploding baby cars,hilarious and cartoonish fight scenes,wooden acting,film inserts,copy pasted from an older Hong Kong made martial arts’ film and various other impossibilities which result in another “unique” viewing experience,This is a fully recommended guilty pleasure.Pure,brainless Z-movie bravado & bravura…

The plot,as if it really mattered to anyone:Philip Ko performed by Philip Ko,is a notorious hit man formerly working in Holland,now returning to his homeland,Hong Kong.He is assigned with a murder contract,he has to eliminate three human targets.But his work meddles with the work of his brother,who happens to be a police officer.Both of them have to deal with the local drug mob and they form an unusual alliance against the “Godfathers”.

Believe me, it is way more chaotic than it looks,hence,more FUN…

American Force 2: The Untouchable Glory(1988)

We should probably found a worldwide organization that would pay their rightfully deserved dues to Godfrey Ho and IFD Films crew.For, this Hong Kong born producer & co. are responsible for some of the mightiest and most proud moments in the worldwide history of what is called Trash cinema.”American Force 2″(second out of a series of six films)is no exception to the general rule ,that is applicable to the entire Godfrey Ho filmography,namely:Pure trash brilliance…

An elite force,founded by one man(Pierre Kirby,may the force be with him wherever he might be),plus some specially trained oriental peasants are assigned with sabotaging the Russians’ plans to found a state of the art missile base,somewhere in Indochina.The Russians’ commander,general Karpov,is a mean s.o.a.b,who doesn’t like fooling around.But he’ll face his Nemesis in the face of Brian O’Riley(Kirby)and various stock footage sourced Oriental paramilitary Guerillas.

Well,this is not  Mattei grandeur of course.For,the great late Italian trash thespian  was a true maestro in editing random stock footage scenes together and then  incorporating them  into  his “own’ movies.Yet ,the AAV Creative Unit (Godfrey Ho’s story writers & editors)comes pretty close.But what’s really divine in this case is the little bunch of scenes Phillip Ko actually directed,especially,for this movie.Pierre Kirby is delightfully “wooden”,General Karpov and his minions teach us another lesson in cinematic buffoonery and last but not least ,IFD Films’ dubbing team commits another crime against the(lost) art of audio dubbing.The dialogues are also pinnacles of absurdity,lo & behold:

Gen. Karpov: (Speaking about Brian O’Reily) “That one man can do more damage alone than twenty men together. Simply put, he’s the best!

Hugo: “We have to get rid of him then.”

Gen. Karpov: “Good idea. Of course we have to get rid of him, idiot!Hugo

Hugo: “Yes sir?”

Gen. Karpov: “Arrange it.”

Hugo: “No problem.”

Of course,this is not one of the best IFD films ever.It was a run-of-the-mill product and it sometimes tends to drag during certain of its moments,but the surreal plot and the original scenes, featuring Kirby & co., make up for the dull parts.

Godfrey Ho collectors,bad movie buffs and zealots of copy-paste film making need to see this one.

Έχοντας συνέλθει από τα απανωτά,ακατάπαυστα γέλια,συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα στους λάτρεις του ανεγκέφαλου 80ies action και των πολεμικών τεχνών να δουν τούτο το πόνημα.Δεν είναι επ’ουδενί από τα καλύτερα έργα του Godfrey Ho,αλλά αυτό δεν σημαίνει και πολλά,γιατί πολύ απλά οι ταινίες της IFD Films δεν μπορούν να κριθούν με τα standards με τα οποία κρίνονται οι υπόλοιπες ταινίες.

Όσοι από σας,παρ’ελπίδα, θεωρείτε ταινίες όπως το “Μissing in action”,”American Ninja” κ.τ.λ,σκουπίδια με την κακή έννοια,ύμνους στο Μιλιταρισμό,στο Σεξισμό και άλλα τέτοια περεμφερή,μ’αυτό εδώ θα χάσετε εντελώς  τη μπάλλα.

Τα’χουμε πει.Άλλο η “κουλτούρα” και το arthouse cinema και άλλο το genre/entertainment cinema.Όποιος είναι σε θέση ν απενοχοποιήσει θεάματα σαν το παρόν και να κοιτάξει να περάσει καλά,χωρίς ταμπού,πολύ πιθανόν να το πετύχει με ταινίες σαν αυτή.Στο τέλος της ημέρας όλα είναι Σινεμά,και προπαντώς,θέμα γούστου…

The Zero Boys (1986)

Conventional,yet campy and braindead backwoods stalk n’ slash sweetness by the Greek trash demigod Nico Mastorakis.

The plot:

A group of friends travel to a wilderness area to play a survival game. Soon they unexpectedly find themselves in a real-life survival situation.They resort to a backwoods cabin only to find out that they are stalked by an invisible,omnipresent killer…

The title of the movie is sort of misleading since it obviously would suit more a war/action flick rather than a slasher/horror,but this a minor flaw.Other than that the film is another exercise in good old B-movie making,in the usual Mastorakis’ vein.In fact I’ve seen him applying his formula to celluloid in a better way,in movies like “the wind”.”Nightmare at Noon” also seems to be a little more complete of an effort than this one,but in no way does this mean that “The zero boys” isn’t fun to watch.The bodycount is kept in relatively low numbers,but Mastorakis successfully creates tension and builds suspense and makes his film a completely satisfactory B-movie experience.

 

On another note,sad in particular, I would like to add that these flicks and the industry that gave birth to such films seem to be a long forgotten chapter in the cinematic history.Here in latenightmoviecrypt we embrace and venerate what others tag as video fodder.Other people’s trash is our precious treasure.”The Zero Boys” is reviewed  via another 0,50 Euro vhs,and finds like the aforementioned keep me going.I  hope you can also find such movies and enjoy them…

 

Μαστοράκης και ξερό ψωμί…

Άλλη μια από τις παραγωγές της Omega entertainment,που δικαιολογεί απόλυτα το “entertainment” σαν δεύτερο συνθετικό της εμπορικής ονομασίας της.

Ομάδα από ψιλοβλαμμένους jocks υπό την ονομασία “The Zero Boys” ,συνοδεία των bimbo φιλενάδων τους ,στήνουν παιχνίδι επιβίωσης στα δάση.Καταφεύγουν σε απομονωμένη καλύβα,αλλά δεν υπολογίζουν οτι το παιχνίδι θα γίνει εφιάλτης.Άγνωστοι hillbillies δολοφόνοι τους βάζουν σημάδι και η επιβίωση τους γίνεται σταυρόλεξο για δυνατούς λύτες.

Για άλλη μια φορά ο μερακλής θεατής θα trashάρει όμορφα και ξένοιαστα με την μηχανή παραγωγής-σκηνοθεσίας B-movie μεγαλείου που λέγεται Μαστοράκης.Η συνταγή είναι γνωστή και περιλαμβάνει τα συνηθισμένα,αλλά ποτέ πληκτικά:Εκρήξεις,γυναίκες,σασπένς,pulp  βία και λίγο αίμα,όλα αυτά υπό την πάντα “σωστή” αντιμετώπιση και χειρισμούς απ’τον σκηνοθέτη.

 

Η ταινία είναι πολύ low budget,αλλά καταφέρνει και δείχνει πολύ αξιοπρεπής,οι ερμηνείες είναι οκ,χωρίς να κομίζουν και γλαύκας εις Αθήνας και γενικά η ώρα περνάει πολύ ευχάριστα,όπως δηλαδή και σε  άλλες ταινίες του σκηνοθέτη,βλέπε “‘The wind”, “Nightmare at Noon”.Kαλή φάση δηλαδή…

Aτμοσφαιρικότατο,διαβολεμένα στυλιζαρισμένο ,με την καλή έννοια ,slasher που διαπραγματεύεται την διαταραγμένη σεξουαλικότητα και τη συνδέει με το μεταφυσικό.Η θεματική της ταινίας ενισχύει τον σοκαριστικό αντίκτυπο και τα διάσπαρτα ψήγματα Γοτθικού τρόμου κάνουν το “πιάτο” ακόμα πιο γευστικό.

H ιστορία:

Σε μια μικρή πόλη της Νέας Αγγλίας, ένας νεαρός έφηβος ισχυρίζεται ότι βλέπει όνειρα που εμπλέκουν νέες γυναίκες να βιάζονται και να δολοφονούνται με βάναυσο τρόπο. Ένας γιατρός και ο τοπικός σερίφης ανακαλύπτουν ότι τα όνειρα του αγοριού είναι πραγματικά και ότι μια απειλητική ιστορία αποκρυφισμού  θα μπορούσε να κρύβεται πίσω από τις κτηνώδεις  δολοφονίες.

Βραδύκαυστο και παλαιάς κοπής,τούτο το φίλμ κρύβει πολύ περισσότερα από οσα δείχνει.Ο μίτος του σεναρίου ξετυλίγεται με αργό,αλλά επιβλητικό τρόπο,με τη υποβόσκουσα διαστροφική Σεξουαλικότητα του σεναρίου να προκαλεί αισθήματα δέους και να κάνει την πολίχνη του Galen να μοιάζει με το καταραμένο Dunwich ή το Salem,όπου μάγισσες συναντούσαν τον θάνατο στις φλόγες.

Η βία είναι υποβόσκουσα καθ’ολη τη διάρκεια της ταινίας,αλλά οι λίγες σκηνές που περιέχουν αιματοχυσία είναι τόσο καλές που μπορούν να αποζημιώσουν τους οπαδούς του gore.Τα μεταφυσικά στοιχεία δένουν άψογα με τη slasher τεχνοτροπία και η σκηνοθεσία του John Hough είναι υποδειγματική.

 

Το “Incubus” μου θυμίζει την αισθητική ταινιών όπως το “Silent night,Bloody night” και δυστυχώς φαίνεται να είναι ,αδίκως,ξεχασμένο από πολλούς.Πρόκειται για μια “γεμάτη” φιλμική εμπειρία και   συστήνεται ανεπιφύλακτα στους λάτρεις του τρόμου.

 

Disturbing and atmospheric.Intense and bone chilling  without being titillating and gratuitous.”Incubus” is a great sample of how good old shockers were made.

In the small New England town of Galen, a young teenage boy claims he has dreams of young women being brutally raped and murdered. A doctor and the local sheriff discover that the boy’s dreams are real and that a sinister occult might be behind the brutal murders.

This is a slow burning little gem,that builds tension as the plot unfolds.The performances by the cast are solid,much better than the stereotypical horror film performance,which involve lots of screaming and crazy looks. Cassavetes is the leader of the pack and his performance is very adequate,the rest of the cast do nice jobs as well.

The directorial job,courtesy of John Hough definitely deserves a honorable mention.It’s masterful,full of stylish shots,it builds atmosphere and tension and maintains suspense throughout the entire film duration.The relatively few murder scenes are executed with verve and are really brutal.The creepy film score is also a highlight

To sum up,this film is a very strong cinematic experience.Unfortunately,it doesn’t seem to be very popular and it has been underrated,probably because of the lack of gore.Don’t let this one go under the radar.Highly recommended.
