Oh my gosh!Z-grade gonzoid slasher/horror/splatter film co-produced by Linda Blair?How low can you go?Well this is plain bad and very inane.As bad,as it gets,braindead fun…

A gang of crazed punks breaks into a family’s vacation home in the mountains and slaughters the entire family, except for one daughter who gets away. As the gang pursues the girl through the snow, they slowly realize that some kind of murderous creature is chasing them…

Well,this one has its moments,but the overall feeling is sort of a letdown,a lukewarm dish.There’s absolutely no nudity here and the special effects are amateurish beyond description.It’s worth watching ,if you are a die-hard slasher fan,especially because of the inane plot that has so many holes it gets surreal.The acting is atrocious.Especially the gang of punks should be nominated for the most moronic acting in the history of exploitation cinema.There are some nicely staged snowy forest sequences though that make the movie a bit more interesting.The third reel of the movie is a painful drag though and the vigilante conclusion is so unintentionally hilarious it gets hard to believe.This is one of the quintessential problems on “Grotesque”.It feels like a mish-mash of different sub-genres.Partly slasher,partly backwoods horror,partly monster movie,partly revenge flick.Unfortunately the attempt is half-assed to say the least

If you enjoy Z-grade slasher/horror like “don’t go in the woods…alone”,then you’re in for a treat as “Grotesque” is slightly better.The rest of the horror fans will probably have a hard time to stomach this…

Mια τα cannibal σκουπίδια του Franco,μια κάτι τέτοια φέσια σαν αυτό σήμερα,με βλέπω να γράφω διατριβή σχετικά με τις άθλιες ταινίες.Εντάξει,το συγκεκριμένο δεν είναι τόσο τραγικό,αλλά καλό δεν το λές με τίποτα,αφού είναι low budget όσο δεν πάει,ενώ και το σενάριο είναι ό,τι να’ναι.

Μια συμμορία τρελαμμένων από τα drugs, punks εισβάλλει στο εξοχικό σπίτι  μιας οικογένειας στα βουνά.Οι πάνκς σφάζουν όλη την οικογένεια, εκτός από τη μία κόρη που διαφεύγει στο δάσος. Καθώς η συμμορία καταδιώκει το κορίτσι μέσα στο χιόνι,σιγά-σιγά τα μέλη της συνειδητοποιούν ότι κάποιο δολοφονικό πλάσμα τους καταδιώκει.

Ειλικρινά η πλοκή δεν μπορεί να περιγραφεί περαιτέρω γιατί θα αποκαλυφθεί η πορεία και το τέλος της ταινίας,αλλά μπορώ να σας πω πως τα twists ειδικά προς το τέλος είναι τόσο ανορθόδοξα και “καμμένα”,που νομίζει κανείς οτι έμπλεξαν οι μπομπίνες δύο διαφορετικών ταινιών.Αυτό φυσικά δεν λειτουργεί,όπως επίσης δεν λειτουργούν τα κάκιστα εφφέ και οι απαράδεκτες ερμηνείες του κάστ.

Λειτουργεί παρ’ολα αυτά το πρώτο μισό της ταινίας που είναι ενα συμπαθητικό sleazy home invasion film με στοιχεία σπλάττερ,όπως και μερικές σεκανς καταδίωξης στο χιονισμένο δάσος.Ασυζητητί το παρόν είναι τεκές,αλλά υπάρχουν και χειρότερα(don’t go in the woods”,”scared alive”)οπότε αν είστε τολμηροί μπορεί και να διασκεδάσετε…

Slick and polished mystery thriller about a voodoo sect is what I’m presenting tonight.This is definitely way more polished than the usual stuff I tend to present here,but nonetheless,it is a very successful,in all terms,movie.

After the death of his wife, police psychiatrist Cal Jamison moves to New York. There he has to help in the investigation of the murder of two youths, who seem to have been immolated during a cult ritual. Jamison believes it’s been Voodoo and, ignoring the warnings of his housekeeper, enters the scenery and soon gets under their influence. They try to get him to sacrifice his own son.

As almost everyone could say,this is hardly original,bearing quite a few similarities with movies like “Angelheart” and the “Serpent and the rainbow”,yet “The Believers” is a captivating film,that is aided by a very well-written script,a solid directing job and tremendous performances by the cast.The cast in particular consists of great character actors like:Martin Sheen,Robert Loggia,Harris Yulin and Jimmy Smits(great job as Lopez,a frantic performance).The voodoo-Santeria rites as depicted in the film are shockingly realistic and genuinely scary and add to the overall impact of the movie.

As you figure out this hardly falls to the B-movie category,yet it is a great movie with an atmosphere that will suck you dry.Fans of slick films will dig this one.

Υποβλητικό,καλογυαλισμένο horror/mystery film με κάστ προδιαγραφών Α’εθνικής.

Ο Cal Jamison χάνει σε ένα τραγικό ατύχημα τη γυναίκα του και μαζί με το γιό του μετακομίζει στη Νεα Υόρκη,όπου και εργάζεται σαν ψυχολόγος της Αστυνομίας.Σύντομα μπλέκεται στα πλοκάμια μιας αίρεσης Βουντού,τα μέλη της οποίας δείχνουν να τον ξέρουν και βάζουν στο στόχαστρο τους το γιό του.

Η ταινία ξεκινάει πανίσχυρα με τη σκηνή του ατυχήματος και από εκεί και πέρα γραπώνει το θεατή και τον βυθίζει σε μια εφιαλτική ατμόσφαιρα γεμάτη αταβιστικές τελετές βουντού και δεισιδαιμονία.Το κάστ τα πηγαίνει περίφημα ενώ τα soundtrack και η εμπνευσμένη σκηνοθεσία ενισχύει τον αντίκτυπο του φίλμ.

Κλείνοντας ας αναφέρουμε οτι το παρόν δεν ανήκει επ’ουδενί στην κατηγορία των B-movies.Είναι μια φροντισμένη παραγωγή με αρκετά υψηλό προυπολογισμό και ωραίες ερμηνείες.Αν σας αρέσουν ταινίες όπως το “Αngelheart” κοπιάστε άφοβα…

 

 

Crawlspace(1986)

A good slasher/horror film.”Crawlspace” is a vehicle for another insane performance by the demonic Klaus Kinski.Undoubtedly the film reaps the benefits of having Kinski as the lead actor and if not for his appearance,”Crawlspace” would be just another average cinematic experience.

The storyline:

Karl Gunther(Kinski)is a man who runs an apartment house for women.He is the demented son of a Nazi surgeon who has the house equipped with secret passageways, hidden rooms and torture and murder devices.

Well,there’s certainly a lot of controversy regarding the deeds and shenanigans of the late Klaus Kinski,but his cinematic genius gave a lot of character actors a run for their money.His performance as the soft-spoken,yet callous and demented Dr.Gunther is the real asset of this film.Other than that the atmosphere in “Crawlspace” is charmingly morbid and the delirious climax,where we witness Kinski with a lipstick painted mouth and a Nazi hat on his head,is worth the price of admission.

so be it…

The direction is effective,mostly focusing in  the adequate use of the interiors,such as the labyrinthine and narrow heater ducts where Kinski crawls and stalks his victims.The cinematography is decent,taking into consideration that the film is quite low budget.All in all,a great,sort of overlooked and forgotten slasher/horror entry from an era of pure cinematic craft.Unfortunately they don’t make them this way anymore…

Όμορφο slasher με τον Klaus Kinski να αποπνέει θειάφι και να σκορπίζει τον όλεθρο στο ρόλο του σαδιστή Δόκτωρος Karl Gunther,γιού Ναζί εγκληματία πολέμου.

Ο Gunther θεωρητικά έχει κόψει τις γέφυρες με το σκοτεινό παρελθόν του και διάγει συντηρητικό βίο σαν εισοδηματίας,νοικιάζοντας διαμερίσματα σε μοναχικές φοιτήτριες.Όμως το αίμα νερό δε γίνεται και ο Gunther μόνο αθώος δεν είναι καθώς έχει πολλούς σκελετούς και άλλα πράγματα κρυμμένα στις ντουλάπες και στη σοφίτα του.

Περιττό να αναφέρουμε πόσο αμφιλεγόμενη προσωπικότητα ήταν ο Kinski,άλλωστε ο Herzog τα έχει πει όλα για τον εφιαλτικό χαρακτήρα του Γερμανού ηθοποιού.Όμως ουδείς μπορεί να αμφισβητήσει το πόσο μεγάλος ηθοποιός ήταν.Εδώ ο Kinski,ο οποίος σημειωτέον,μισούσε το επάγγελμά του και θεωρούσε τον εαυτό του σαν μια καλοπληρωμένη πόρνη,δίνει τα ρέστα του και με την απόκοσμη μανιέρα του,ανεβαζει την ταινία τουλάχιστον δυο επίπεδα πάνω.

Η σκηνοθεσία και η φωτογραφία διεκπεραιώνουν ευχάριστα και χειρίζονται αξιοπρεπώς το υλικό τους που είναι σχεδόν εξ’ολοκλήρου γυρισμένο σε εσωτερικούς χώρους.

Ωραιότατο φιλμάκι που κρατά το ενδιαφέρον του θεατή αμείωτο καθ’όλη τη διάρκειά του.Δείτε το…

Αλί και τρισαλί,ιδού η πρώτη βιντεοκασέτα που αγόρασα ποτέ.Άλλος στη θέση μου μάλλον θα την είχε πετάξει στα σκουπίδια και θα είχε συνεχίσει τη ζωή του,αλλά οχι εγω…

Με τεράστιο αίσθημα ευθύνης και απόλυτη υπερηφάνια σας παρουσιάζω μια από τις χειρότερες ταινίες που έχω δει στη ζωή μου και φυσικά το χειρότερο(μαζί με το “Cannibal terror”)cannibal movie που έχει γυριστεί ποτέ.

Ένας άνδρας,ο Δόκτωρ Jeremy Taylor(Al”God upon men”Cliver) που έχασε το χέρι του και την οικογένειά του,πέφτοντας θύμα επίθεσης από μια φυλή κανιβάλων επιστρέφει  ως μέλος μιας αποστολής διάσωσης δέκα χρόνια αργότερα ,στον τόπο του εγκλήματος για να φέρει πίσω την  έφηβη πλέον κόρη  του.Αντικρίζοντας το βλαστάρι του διαπιστώνει ότι οχι μόνο μεγάλωσε, αλλά έγινε και μια όμορφη ξανθιά γυναίκα που έγινε βασίλισσα των κανιβάλων.

Από που να πρωτοξεκινήσω?Από τις άθλιες ερμηνείες του κάστ? Από το γεγονός οτι οι κανίβαλοι είναι Λευκοί με make-up που τους κάνει να μοιάζουν με μέλη των Kiss?Από την ανύπαρκτη σκηνοθεσία,την κάκιστη φωτογραφία-μοντάζ ή τις κωμικοτραγικές σκηνές κανιβαλισμού σε slow motion,στις οποίες κάποιος κριτικός έχει γράψει οτι βλέπει ένα arthouse πρίσμα.

Μπα,εγω δεν βλέπω τίποτα το artsy σε ένα extreme close-up ενος στόματος που μασάει κόκκινο λάστιχο με λίγο ketchup ,τραβηγμένο από κάτι που μοιάζει με ανοιγμένο στομάχι γυναίκας.Η ταινία είναι ένα σκουπίδι του κερατά,γυρισμένο καθαρά για να τσιμπήσει οτι μπορεί από την τότε επιτυχία των ταινιών με κανίβαλους.Καθαρό και ανερυθρίαστο καρα-low budget exploitation με όλη του τη σαπίλα όπως μόνο η Eurocine μπορούσε.They don’t make them like they used to…

Εκτός των άλλων,όπως έχει παραδεχτεί σε συνέντευξη του,ο Jess Franco μισούσε αυτού του είδους τις ταινίες για αυτό και γύρισε μόνο δύο τέτοια φίλμ.Δείτε το μόνο αν θέλετε να έχετε άποψη για όλες τις ταινίες με κανίβαλους…

Α serious candidate for the prize of the worst cannibal movie ever made(can be topped only by “Cannibal terror”),”White cannibal queen” is an abysmal affair and if someone sits through its entire duration,then he/she probably can claim with pride that he/she is a hardcore eurotrash fan.

Doctor Taylor, his wife Elizabeth and their teenage daughter Lana go to an isolated hospital in the Brazilean jungle, close to the Amazon river; they are attacked by savages and he sees them kill and eat his wife, and abduct the girl. Taylor manages to get back to civilization, but he needs psychiatric help; only Doctor Ana believes his story about cannibals, and takes the risk of going with him and a few rich people who can pay for a safari in the remote jungle. The cannibals decimate a number of the safari members in a succession of attacks, and only Taylor, the sexy lady doctor, and a photograph, rich the cannibal tribe – only to discover that she is now the wife of the tribe leader, and considered a goddess. The tribe has adopted her as a white goddess.

Shot on a shoestring budget,probably in a zoo somewhere in Spain, this one is exploitation per se.It’s very probable that the Eurocine exploitation deities in charge of the production,actually believed that this one could hit the box office like the Deodato and Lenzi movies,but how in the world could this ever be true?

This is not the case,I assure you.The movie is shot in a haste and it painfully shows.The cinematography and the editing is crude,so are the special effects.The cannibal scenes are directed in the Franco’s usual extreme close-up mannerism.As a result all the viewer can see is some fangs masticating on some red goo.Very cheap trick Senor Franco…

The barrage of ridiculousness is completed by the crappy cast performances and by the fact that the cannibals are nothing but white/caucasian people with face paint..

ONLY for hardcore eurocult and extremely bad cinema fans…

Qualcuno in ascolto(1988) aka “High frequency”

A boy who operates a ham radio and a man who works at a satellite relay station witness the same murder thousands of miles apart and have to figure out how to warn the next potential victim.

Long forsaken pg-rated spy/thriller made in Italy that nobody seems to know or care about.Unfortunately this incredibly rare film is a very family friendly affair and each time that some action seems to be taking place,it is suddenly muted in favor of a more televisual-less violent and suspenseful  approach.There are some tense moments throughout the duration of this feature but the film is mostly a harmless drag,almost solely focusing in the child-adult relationship and constantly toning down the key spy element.There are some parts in the film when the overall tone becomes almost melodramatic. It’s definitely a pity because the Italians had proved in several occasions that they can do better than this one.

However,the film is not a total snoozefest.The production values are lush.The photography is crisp and clear.The use of the Alpine and New England location is great and the performances are adequate.It works rather good as a Saturday noon-early afternoon viewing.A rather lukewarm meal I am afraid,still better than a cold meal…

Γερασμένο οικογενειακό θριλεράκι εξ Ιταλίας.Η σπανιότητα της βιντεοκασέτας έπαιξε το ρόλο της στο να αποκτήσω το παρόν,αλλά δε βαριέσαι το μέτριο καταδεικνύει την αξία του αρίστου…

Η ιστορία έχει ένα άλφα ενδιαφέρον αλλά η εκτέλεση πάσχει.Ενδεικτικά:Χειριστής τηλεπικοινωνιακού δορυφορικού σταθμού στις Άλπεις γίνεται μάρτυρας ενός εγκλήματος που διαδραματίζεται στην οθόνη του.Γνωρίζεται μέσω δορυφόρου με έφηβο ασυρματιστή από τις  Η.Π.Α και μπλέκουν σε επικίνδυνο παιχνίδι με άρωμα κατασκοπίας.

Ο προυπολογισμός της ταινίας είναι υψηλότερος από τα συνηθισμένα standards και ως εκ τούτου η απεικόνιση του Αλπικού τοπίου είναι επιβλητική.Κάποιες στιγμές ψυχροπολεμικού σασπένς υπάρχουν ,αλλά αφενός είναι λίγες και αφετέρου ο συνολικός μελοδραματικός τόνος τις ταινίας καλύπτει τον αντίκτυπό τους,έτσι η ταινία καθίσταται ένα ανώδυνο θεαματάκι ενδεδειγμένο για απογεύματα πνιγμένα στη ραστώνη.

Υπάρχουν ασύγκριτα καλύτερες ταινίες με άρωμα τελών δεκαετίας 80′,παρόλα αυτά οι φάνς του Eurocult μάλλον θα εκτιμήσουν την παραδοξότητα και τη σπανιότητα τούτου του φίλμ που χάθηκε στο χρονοντούλαπο της ιστορίας.

Ozploitation is often considered a smaller wave within the New Wave, “a time when break-neck-action, schlock-horror, comedy and frisky sex romps joined a uniquely antipodean wave in exploitation cinema”

Decent home invasion/madman/slasher entry from Australia.Plagued by a slow beginning but followed by a plenty of eye-opener scenes that deliver,this one is definitely a good find,let alone,a relatively rare low budget horror flick.

Pretty much along the lines of “The fanatic” also bearing some similarities with grim slashers like “Maniac” ,”Lady Stay Dead” tells the tale of Gordon Mason a raving lunatic gardener-handyman that is literally obsessed with his landlady,the obnoxious Marie Coleby ,a famous actress.When he confesses his feelings to her,she rejects him and then all hell breaks loose Aussie style.Rape,murder,burning and overall debauchery ensue…

Chard Hayward is pretty disturbing and effective as the “loony” that goes on a killing spree.In no occasion does he reach levels of Joe Spinell grandeur but who else did?Deborah Coulls’ character(Marie Coleby) is pretty unsympathetic and personally I almost applauded when she met her doom in a fishtank.Her sister though(Louise Howitt)acts in a decent manner and her portrayal of the terrified Nora is convincing,the rest of the cast add some unintentional comedy to the proceedings by overacting their socks out of it.Terry Bourke does a solid job in the direction and if not for the lazy start the movie would be an absolute blast.

That was all folks.Partly disturbing,partly sick and violent , partly campy and fully Australian,this overlooked rare slasher needs to be seen by a wider audience.

Μεθυστικά 80ies slasher/home invasion κατασκεύσμα εξ Αυστραλίας με έναν παλαβιάρη κηπουρό να αποδεικνύεται τρελός ποδόγυρος και να σκοτώνει έχοντας πρώτα ξεφτιλίσει και βιάσει τη διάσημη και ολίγον bitch αφεντικίνα του,με την οποία είχε ψύχωση…

Μετά βάζει στόχο την πιο συμπαθητική και προσηνή αδελφή της αλλά τα πράγματα του πάνε λίγο στραβά και το φινάλε είναι αποκαλυπτικό…

Η ταινία υποφέρει από ένα γενικόλογο και νωθρό ξεκίνημα,αλλά από το εικοστό λεπτό και μετά, που ξεκινάει ο σαματάς,εγκαθίσταται στο στόμα του θεατή ένα μόνιμο χαμόγελο.Βέβαια η ταινία δεν είναι αριστούργημα σαν το “Maniac”,αφού υποφέρει από τις υπερβολικές ερμηνείες του κάστ που την καθιστούν τραγέλαφο σε σημεία,αλλά γενικά το παρόν είναι ένα μακελειό το οποίο προσφέρει ατέλειωτη ευχαρίστηση στον μέσο οπαδό του B-movie culture.

Aυτό είναι το “Lady Stay Dead”,απενοχοποιημένη ένοχη διασκέδαση.Οι οπαδοί του slasher ας το ψάξουν.Οι συλλέκτες θα ζοριστούν λίγο με το Ελληνικό vhs,αλλά αξίζει τον κόπο.

Σαδομαζοχιστικών προεκτάσεων για το γράφοντα, αφού είναι ανελέητα κακό,αλλά ταυτόχρονα φορέας κάποιων μεταφυσικών σχεδόν qualities,το συγκεκριμένο φίλμ είναι κάκιστο αλλά για αδιευκρίνιστο λόγο κρατάει το θεατή κολλημένο στη θέση του.

Ένας βετεράνος του Βιετνάμ κατευθύνεται προς ένα νησί που κατοικείται από ανθρωποφάγες φυλές προκειμένου να σώσει ένα απαχθέν μοντέλο, όχι μόνο από τους απαγωγείς της, αλλά και από τον δαιμονικό,γιγαντόσωμο,ανθρωποφάγο θεό που λατρεύουν οι ιθαγενείς.

Τι να πει κανείς και τι να γράψει για τη σχέση του μακαρίτη Franco με το cannibal horror genre…Προφανώς τον άφηνε παγερά αδιάφορο,εξ’ου και δεν υπέγραψε παρά μόνο δύο ταινίες του είδους,την περί ής ο λόγος και το φρικτό “Cannibals” της

ίδιας χρονιάς,ενω φημολογειται οτι δικιά του ταινία είναι και το “Cannibal terror” της παραγωγού εταιρίας των μεγάλων επιτυχιών Eurocine(όποιος ξέρει,ξέρει).Για να αναλύσουμε το παρόν.Είναι sleazy και exploitative όσο γίνεται,χωρίς όμως καμία καλλιτεχνική πρόφαση,χωρίς καμία αιδώ.Είναι προφανές οτι ο Franco δε δίνει δεκάρα για το υλικό του,η ταινία έχει από τις πιο άθλιες κακοφωτισμένες φωτογραφίες που έχω δει(συγκρίνω με αντιστοιχες ταινίες,οχι με το “Suspiria”),τρισάθλιο μοντάζ,διαλόγους προιόντα εγκεφαλικής βλάβης,γελοίες ερμηνείες από όλο το κάστ…ΑΛΛΑ διαθέτει την τύχη να έχει ένα snuff quality παρεμφερές με ταινίες όπως το “last house on dead end street”,ειδικά σε μερικές σκηνές ψυχεδελικού τρόμου που στήνει ο Franco,oι σεκάνς αυτές γυρισμένες μάλλον με fish eye lens αποκτούν πραγματικά μνημειακή αξία και είναι το μόνο πράγμα, μαζί με το θεικό tribal horror soundtrack ,που αξίζει να θυμάται κανείς από το φιλμ.

Ο κανίβαλλος θεός είναι υπερκούλ και μας χαζεύει όλους με τα μάτια μπάλλες του ping pong που του έχουν κολλήσει,ενω ο διαβολοκυνηγός Al Cliver είναι τρελό κομμάντο και δεν του το΄χα με τίποτα.Η Uschi Fellner είναι εκνευριστικά bimbο και αν ήμουν ο Franco θα είχε πέσει βορά στα νύχια του δίμετρου κανίβαλου από την αρχή της ταινίας.Τέλος οι απαγωγείς δίνουν ρεσιτάλ γελοιότητας όλοι ανεξαιρέτως(και ο Werner Pochath)και οι ατάκες που ξεστομίζονται απλά δεν περιγράφονται.

Η ταινία σε σημεία είναι πολύ αργή,είναι άτεχνη.αλλά με ένα-δυο ποτά,πολλή ανοχή και όντας γνώστες των ρυθμών και της γλώσσας του trash θα την παλέψετε.Για μένα αποτελεί ιστορικό παράδοξο,αφού αποτελεί μια από τις πρώτες βιντεοκασσέτες που αγόρασα και ενώ αναγνωρίζω το πόσο τραγική είναι μου ασκεί μια ακατανίκητη έλξη.Δείτε με δική σας ευθύνη…

Almost unbearable,technically crass,but at the same time charming.This poverty row cannibal exploitation affair beggars belief throughout its entire duration.

The story is set amongst jungle tribes that live in fear of the devil. Laura Crawford is a model who gets kidnapped by a gang of thugs whilst working in South America. They take her into the jungle and demand a huge ransom. Laura is guarded by some ridiculous looking native who calls himself “The Devil” and has to go through all manner of unpleasant situations until the gang gets their ransom. Chained maidens are offered in supplication and the devil demonstrates eating their nether regions in a grossly excessive literal manner. Enter Peter Weston, the devil hunter, who goes into the jungle in true Indiana Jones style to try and rescue her.

Jess Franco obviously didn’t care at all for the cannibal genre and he wanted to capitalize on the popularity of the genre.Little did he and the Lessoeur family(Eurocine)that this atrocious cannibal/exploitation/indiana jones/ransom romp would scar our brains for life.

The movie is one of the most inane creations in the entire cannibal and exploitation genres,it can be topped only by Jess Franco’s “Cannibals” and j.l.Tabernero’s “Cannibal Terror” and makes coarse “gems” like “Mangiati Vivi” look like “The Godfather” in comparison.The performances and the dialogues are some of the stupidest you’ll ever see and hear.The photography and editing defy any cinematic rules.To write that this movie is badly lit and photographed is obviously an understatement,as the director of photography in this one,probably didn’t even try to photograph the film at all,he just shot it,got paid and walked.However there are some sequences shot with a psychedelic effect(fish-eye lens?)that radiate of Franco’s eye for visual brilliance.The psychedelic and tribal horror soundtrack is particularly effective as well.

To sum up.This one is extremely hard to sit through,but  has a few redeeming qualities.I’ll leave it up to you to decide if you’re strong enough to bear it.The majority of the fans think that this is an unwatchable turkey though.The choice is yours…

Τζιάλλο μαγεία από τον υποτιμημένο Romolo Guerrieri,δημιουργό eurocult σημείων αναφοράς όπως “The sweet body of Deborah”, “Ring of death” και “Covert action”.

To σχετικά αναίμακτο αυτό αριστούργημα αφηγείται μέσω  flashbacks τις σκέψεις του Frank ενος ετοιμοθάνατου αρχιτέκτονα.O Frank βρίσκεται σε ένα υπόγειο πάρκινγκ και  έχει μόλις δεχτεί θανάσιμο πυροβολισμό από έναν μεσήλικο άνδρα,αιμόφυρτος λοιπόν ανακαλεί σκόρπιες σκέψεις και συλλογίζεται τι τον έχει φέρει σε αυτή τη δεινή θέση.

Τα flashbacks που μαεστρικά σκηνοθετεί ο Guerrieri δεν υπακούουν σε σαφή χρονολογική σειρά,έτσι γινόμαστε μάρτυρες ενος γοητευτικού μπλεξίματος,με το σκηνοθέτη να παραθέτει εναλλαγές σκηνών ακραίου ερωτικού πάθους,εγκλήματος,ζηλοτυπίας και άλλων συναφών,μέχρι το πάζλ να συμπληρωθεί στο αποκαλυπτικό φινάλε.Όλοι οι πρωταγωνιστές ,με εξέχον μέλος τον Frank,βρίσκονται μπλεγμένοι σε έναν κύκλο απιστίας,ελευθεριότητας και ζήλειας και τα κίνητρα για φόνο σαφώς και υπάρχουν αλλά το μένος των ηρώων ξεσπά σε ανύποπτο χρόνο.

Η ταινία είναι υπέροχη και περικλείει ο,τι λατρεύει ο καθένας μας σε αυτού του είδους τα Ιταλικά θρίλερ.Καλογραμμένο σενάριο με τον πόθο,την απιστία και τη ζηλοτυπία να καθορίζουν τη μοίρα των πρωταγωνιστών,καλό κάστ το οποίο παραδίδει όμορφες ερμηνείες,επιβλητική φωτογραφία από τον Carlo Carlini,σπουδαία σκηνοθεσία που δεν χαραμίζει ούτε πλάνο εξυπηρετώντας πλήρως την πλοκή και το ρυθμό της ταινίας και φανταστικό soundtrack(του Armando Trovaioli).

Το μόνο ίσως μειονέκτημα της είναι πως κουβαλάει έντονο το άρωμα της εποχής της.Ο γράφων δεν το θεωρεί βέβαια μειονέκτημα,αλλά οφείλει να το αναφέρει για λόγους ισορροπίας και αντικειμενικότητας.Το “The double” είναι giallo Α’Εθνικής και σαν τέτοιο οφείλει να αντιμετωπιστεί από τους φάνς του είδους.Επιβεβλημένη η θέαση του…

Jean Sorel gets shot in a underground parking garage and he reflects on how he ended up on this unfortunate position.Through flashbacks we’re shown the events leading up to the shooting.

Stunning depiction of how good old desire,jealousy and sexual infidelities can lead to turmoil and murder.”The double” has more in common with primal Gialli like “A quiet place to kill” and it is relatively tame compared to gruesome epics like “Deep Red”.But the assured direction by Romolo Guerrieri,the breathtaking fragmented narrative that gets together piece by piece,the classy visuals courtesy of Carlo Carlini ,the top-notch performances courtesy of the great cast and the charming vocals of Nora Orlandi on top of the magnificent lounge Armando Trovaioli score bless this film with sheer brilliance.

This is a profound giallo not addressed to gorehounds.A solid artistic creation that should be appreciated by every adventurous individual with exquisite cinematic tastes.

Το πορνό αποτελούσε πάντα το παχύ έντερο του κινηματογράφου,για κριτικούς,θεατές και κινηματογραφιστές εξίσου.Πολλοί σκηνοθέτες έβγαλαν ψωμί από αυτό αλλά λίγοι το παραδέχονται.Οι κριτικοί αγνοούν απλά την ύπαρξή του και για τους θεατές είναι μια ένοχη απόλαυση,ένα ξεχαρμανιασμα χωρίς λοιπές προεκτάσεις,σίγουρα πάντως οχι καλιτεχνικές…

Παρ’όλα αυτά το είδος υπάρχει και εξελίσσεται,και κάποιοι δημιουργοί  ίσως να βλέπουν σε αυτό κάποιες καλλιτεχνικές εκφάνσεις,ακόμα και ο πολύς Lars von Trier είχε δηλώσει πως θα ήθελε να σκηνοθετήσει ταινια πορνό.Λοιπόν ο,τι ο Von Trier ακόμα σκέφτεται,ο Franco το είχε κάνει ήδη πράξη το 1986 με ένα artsy ,αλλά ανυπόφορο πορνό.

Eκεί που ο D’Amato και ο Rollin τα κατάφεραν γιατί αντιλήφθηκαν οτι το πορνό γυρίζεται με άλλους όρους,ο Franco τα κάνει θάλασσα σέρνοντας τεμπέλικα,δήθεν ατμοσφαιρικά την κάμερά του,καταφεύγοντας σε extreme close-ups γεννητικών οργάνων,τα οποία μόνο ερωτικά δεν είναι.Το σέξ είναι επίσης φιλμαρισμένο με τον ίδιο τρόπο και είναι επιεικώς αδιάφορο.Η ταινία δεν έχει καθόλου πρόζα και αυτό είναι μάλλον καλό γιατί εντείνει την arthouse αισθητική του όλου εγχειρήματος.

Από εκεί και πέρα,η Lina Romay βρίσκεται στα όρια της παχυσαρκίας.Κρίμα…Το ίδιο μέγεθος έχει και η δεύτερη γυναίκα ηθοποιός,ενω το σερί της ακαλαισθησίας συμπληρώνεται απ’τους δυο άνδρες ηθοποιούς.Η φωτογραφία πάντως είναι παραδόξως καλή.

Πράξη καλλιτεχνικής προβοκάτσιας,κινηματογραφικός ανταρτοπόλεμος,χάσιμο χρόνου.Ακόμα και αν το ζεύγος Franco-Romay στόχευε σε κάποιο από τα δύο πρώτα,δυστυχώς το πόρισμα δείχνει πως αυτή η μη-ταινία  δεν είναι παρα μια ιδιοτροπία των δημιουργών που δεν αφορά κανέναν άλλον πέρα από αυτούς.

Crappy Franco adult entry.This is nothing but a nicely photographed,but badly shot and poorly directed mishmash of  genitalia close-ups.The sex is uninteresting because of its clumsy character and its inadequate direction.Porn demands different sense of space and certainly less lazy camera moves than a typical Franco movie,but the Spaniard trash-afficionado  just doesn’t seem to care,as he keeps on zooming in his beloved ,almost obese in this one, Lina Romay,but the proceedings are never provocative or arousing.French blue movies with Brigitte Lahaie was way more effective than this one.

Probably an inside game rather than an act of cinematic resistance,this film maintains its artistic vision and integrity,but it’s ill-conceived,half-hearted and poorly-made and should be seen only by the most daring of the Francophiles.

Τράς δυναμίτης από το μαίτρ Jess Franco.Εδώ ο Ισπανός τιτάνας του B-movie υπηρετεί με προσήλωση το υποείδος του slasher-splatter και παρά το γεγονός οτι η ταινία είναι καταφανέστατα αντιγραφή αυτού του είδους ταινιών,ο Franco καταφέρει να κάνει τα δικά του τερτίπια και να την κάνει sleazy και exploitative όπως κανένας Αμερικανός σκηνοθέτης δεν θα μπορούσε.

Ο Miguel, ένας νεαρός άνδρας με φρικτά παραμορφωμένο πρόσωπο,καταλαμβάνεται από αμόκ,όταν γνωρίζει την απόρριψη από μια κοπέλα ,τη βιάζει και στη συνέχεια την κατακρεουργεί με ένα ψαλίδι.Ο  Miguel κλείνεται σε άσυλο φρενοβλαβών για πέντε χρόνια.Μετά από αυτό το διάστημα οι γιατροί αποφασίζουν πως έχει πλέον θεραπευτεί και παραδίδεται στη φροντίδα της αδελφής του, Μανουέλα. Μαζί με την ανάπηρη μητέρα τους είναι ιδιοκτήτες ενός οικοτροφείου για νεαρές γυναίκες στο ισπανικό θέρετρο της Costa Del Sol .Ο  Miguel γοητεύεται από την  Angela,την οποία είδε για πρώτη φορά ερχόμενος από το άσυλο.Ο ψυχικά ασταθής άνδρας κυριεύεται από εμμονή και την ακολουθεί παντού.Επίσης συναντιέται με την αδελφή του και της ζητάει να ξαναρχίσουν την  αιμομικτική σχέση τους.Αυτή αρνείται και του θυμίζει ότι ήταν αυτή η σχέση που τον έκανε συναισθηματικά ασταθή πέντε χρόνια νωρίτερα. Η Manuela επίσης λέει ότι δεν μπορεί να επανασυνδεθεί μαζί του γιατί κανείς δεν θα καταλάβει αυτή την ασυνήθιστη σχέση: “Μόνο αν μπορούσαμε να απαλλαγούμε από όλους, τότε τα πράγματα θα μπορούσαν  να γίνουν όπως ήταν.”Στο μεταξύ στο οικοτροφείο ένας μανιακός δολοφόνος έχει αρχίσει να ξεπαστρεύει νεαρές γυναίκες…

Η ντελιριακή υπόθεση του φίλμ αποδίδει χαρακτηριστικά το ειρωνικά οργιώδες κλίμα που επικρατεί στην ταινία.Σε ένα κλίμα σχεδόν μαύρης κωμωδίας,χωρίς όμως να καταλήγει σε παρωδία του είδους ,οι φόνοι διαπράττονται με μια πληθώρα τρόπων(πριονοκορδέλα,αλυσοπρίονο,ψαλίδι κ.τ.λ) και το οικοτροφείο πνίγεται στο αίμα.Όλα αυτά αποδίδονται με μπρίο από το Franco ενώ το location του Alicante είναι αρκούντως “Σπανιόλικο”, και η φωτογραφία του είναι καθαρή και ζωντανή σε αντίθεση με άλλες ταινίες του .

Στην άλλη όψη του(ματωμένου)φεγγαριού τώρα.Οι ερμηνείες,με εξαίρεση την κούκλα Olivia Pascal,πρώην softcore αστεράκι,είναι για σφαλιάρες,αλλά αυτό για άλλους μπορεί να αποτελεί και πλεονέκτημα.Εγώ διαφωνώ.Εφ’όσον η πλοκή είναι συρραφή κλισέ και σκηνών από άλλες ταινίες,τυχόν δυνατότερες ερμηνείες θα μετέτρεπαν την ταινία σε ένα δυσοίωνο και απειλητικό κτήνος.Η παρούσα βερσιόν πάντως,όσο διασκεδαστική και αν είναι,καταλήγει λόγω των μειονεκτημάτων της,να εμπεριέχει σχεδόν σλάπστικ-φαρσικά στοιχεία.

Ας είναι…Σ’ένα στύλ διόλου αντιπροσωπευτικό για το Franco,o μεγάλος Ισπανός τα πήγε απρόσμενα καλά,αφού ούτε sexadelic erotica είναι,ούτε gothic horror ,ούτε women in prison ούτε και εγώ δεν ξέρω σε τι άλλο ήταν άψογος ο απελθών.

Stunningly effective although inept 1981 Jess Franco slasher imitation.

This humble slab of Eurohorror manages to transcend its rip-off character and aesthetics and  to be baptized in sleaze, courtesy of its creator.Gallons of blood are spilled and at least half a dozen of young women die in utterly inventive ways.Well done Tio Jess…

The farcical plot:

Manuela (Nadja Gerganoff), a young woman who, along with her mentally deranged brother, Miguel (Alexander Waechter), operates a boarding school for girls in a Spanish resort town. When Miguel demands that he and Manuela resume an incestuous affair and she refuses, he sets his sights on Angela (Olivia Pascal), while other young women also begin meeting a gruesome fate.

Well,I have seen movies and movies,but the depiction of the psychologically disturbed individual in “Bloody moon” defies each and every scientific explanation.How this person was set free by the psychiatrists is also beyond my understanding.Despite the fact that the storyline could be better and more credibly written by a 5-year old child, the movie still rocks.Franco is aided by the crisp and clear photography and while he never takes his subject matter very seriously,he doesn’t allow the movie to become a parody of the genre.That’s a fine line he managed to keep intact and he should be given credit for this…

On the downside the performances by the cast are utterly moronic…

Little do I care.This is a unique piece of Franco celluloid atrocity and while it’s not a masterpiece,it should definitely be cherished by Francophiles and Eurohorror buffs.
