Run of the mill albeit serviceable sports-themed Slasher with an anabolic steroids abuse subplot ,which delivers the goods but does little in order to stand out. The plot consists of a mad slasher wielding a javelin killing off various members of a high school gymnastics team. The film shares many of its plot points with an earlier slasher film, Graduation Day.

A seven member gymnastics team at the Falcon Academy of Athletics is up for the “Nationals”. These games are for most young athletes a gateway to the Olympics . So both the academy staff and the athletes are going above and beyond the call of duty in order to succeed.Especially Dr. Jordine – the head physician is strictly adhering to a program that focuses on the use of anabolic steroids. But before the young athletes can reach the competition, a killer dressed in a black tracksuit and wielding a javelin shows up to stalk and kill each member of the team. They then have to discover the killer’s identity before the entire team ends up slaughtered.

Well, this one tries to throw some curveballs to the viewer’s side , like the steroid reference and the “realization” that  Russian and East German Olympians  are “juicing up” so the U.S athletes have to do it as well. Other than that “Fatal Games” doesn’t pass as a slasher Behemoth of sorts, it offers standard fare characters ,predictable killings , a few atmospheric sequences,some sleaze in the form of gratuitous nudity and an amusingly outrageous climax.

This will however address to genre completists only.

Γενικόλογο πλην διασκεδαστικό σλασερ σχετικό με τους κινδύνους (κυριολεκτικά) του πρωταθλητισμού, το παρόν εκτυλίσσεται σε αθλητική ακαδημία των Η.Π.Α στην οποία φερέλπιδες αθλητές και αθλήτριες προετοιμάζονται εντατικά προκειμένου να συμμετάσχουν στους εθνικούς αγώνες και μέσω μιας πιθανής διάκρισης να εξασφαλίσουν το πολυπόθητο εισιτήριο για την Ολυμπιακή ομάδα της χώρας. Τη χαρά τους την παίρνει κυριολεκτικά ο Χάρος,ή ο άγνωστος δολοφόνος φέρων αδιάβροχη ένδυση και κραδαίνων ακόντιο. Τελικά αποδεικνύεται πως ο πρωταθλητισμός βλάπτει σοβαρά την υγεία των… αθλητών.

Το φιλμ δεν κομίζει κάτι το καινοτόμο ή το ριζοσπαστικό, παρ’όλα αυτά κινείται με ικανοποιητικό ρυθμό και προσφέρει μερικές ατμοσφαιρικές σεκάνς και μια αρκούντως διασκεδαστική-τραβηγμένη από τα μαλλιά κλιμάκωση.Οι ερμηνείες και η σκηνοθεσία είναι επίπεδες όπως θα περίμενε κανείς αλλά αυτό δεν αποθαρρύνει επ’ουδενί τους φανατικούς του είδους οι οποίοι θα χαρούν να προσθέσουν το παρόν στη συλλογή τους.
