An altercation between a group of girls out for the night and a gang of local punks leaves the punks vowing revenge. It comes in the form of the gang-rape of a young mute (Heather) and her older sister (Brenda) starts hunting the gang in turn – armed with bear traps and crossbow.
It’s hard to pass the bravado and bravura that oozes from every pore of this film’s frames. Despite being a troubled production with directors walking off the project, funds being withdrawn amidst the film shooting and various script re-writings, Linda Blair has spoken fondly of the film which has now been deemed a cult classic
…and a cult classic it sure is…
Savage Steets is another case of a film being a smorgasbord of influences but also having something special of its own. It’s the Tom De Simone campiness , the genuinely savage moments, like Linnea Quigley’s rape scene, the overacted craziness of Blair’s Deathwish emulating (and razzie awarded) performance and the demented climax that elevate the film to the cult pantheon and deem it an unforgettable experience.
The supporting cast offer adequate if deliciously cheesy moments and the hard rock soundtrack is to die for. Go Brenda go…

Όταν στο πρώτο εικοσάλεπτο έχουμε ήδη έρθει αντιμέτωποι με σκηνές που παντρεύουν το Porkies,το Class of 1984 ,με μια σκηνή βιασμού που η κινηματογράφηση της θυμίζει το σηκουελ του deathwish , τότε ξέρουμε πως η ταινία αυτή ,όπως και το επικό της σαουντρακ θα μας μείνει αξέχαστη.
Η ταινία προσφέρει τη μια σκηνή ανθολογίας μετά την άλλη και η υπερβατική βιτζιλάντε κλιμάκωση ρίχνει νερό στο αυλάκι του exploitation αραβουργήματος που ακούει στο όνομα savage streets.
Δικαιολογημένα κλασικό δείγμα του είδους, αυτό το έπος με τους 2 σκηνοθέτες,τα επικά one liners και τις άπειρες σεναριακές παραλλαγές που έπεσαν στο τραπέζι κατά τη διάρκεια της παραγωγής, αποτελεί ένα αντιπροσωπευτικότατο snapshot της δεκαετίας του 80 και των περισσότερων δημοφιλών κινηματογραφικών υποειδών εκείνης της εποχής (slasher,action,teenage comedy,vigilante,horror) και μένει αξέχαστο…

Hell Night (1981)

Mostly effective slasher/haunted house/gothic horror entry by Tom DeSimone (Reform School girls) who here decides to refrain from his usual campy antics and offers us a nice little flick that is done with gusto.
Peter, the president of Alpha Sigma Rho fraternity, decides that four new pledges—bookish Marti, rich Jeff, party girl Denise, and surfer Seth—should have an initiation. They are to spend the night in a supposedly “haunted” estate, Garth Manor, where murders occurred 12 years prior. The house’s former owner, Raymond Garth, strangled his wife, Lillian, to death and killed his three deformed children—Margaret, Morris, & Suzanne— before finally hanging himself. However, the youngest child, Andrew Garth, was never found, and is rumored to still be in the house.
The subplot in this film is suitably creepy and we know we are in for a hideous Jason Vorhees lookalike killer almost right off the bat. The film also offers moments of silliness ,inherent to the slasher subgenre and it is never a downbeat hammerblow like Mania,Prowler and the likes, still it appropriately delivers the goods and offers some moments of slasher grandiosity.
Acting-wise ,well we all know at this point that Blair never went on to become the good actress we all hoped she would. Ok,ok her role in “the Exorcist” is iconic, but “the Exorcist” is an overall iconic film and Blair should not be solely judged by her input in that film. Her performance in Hell night is typical of the Linda Blair era. In other words overacting and subtlety combined in a paradoxical manner. It’s an understatement to say that Blair didn’t really nail her part, as she was nominated once again for a razzie award.
Anyways Linda Blair is Linda Blair and we love her. Hell Night is another curio from the era of slashers that doesn’t overstay its welcome and keeps things simple and effective. Almost memorable…
δυσοίωνο γοτθικό σλάσερ από τον τρασάκια Τομ ΝτεΣιμόν, τον άνθρωπο που απαθανάτισε την επική περσόνα της Γουέντυ Ο’Γουίλλιαμς σε σελιλόιντ και παραδίδει εδώ ένα σεμινάριο ηπίων τόνων για το πως κάνει κανείς ένα σλασερ με γοτθική ατμόσφαιρα με περιορισμένο προυπολογισμό.
Μια νύχτα μύησης μιας φοιτητικής αδελφότητας θα πάρει περίεργη τροπή όταν τέσσερα κολλεγιόπαιδα θα καταλύσουν σε έπαυλη που κατοικοεδρεύει ξεχασμένος και φρικτά παραμορφωμένος δολοφόνος.
Ο ΝτεΣιμόν τα κάνει όλα σωστά εδώ και μας προσφέρει ένα μινι έπος με μια χαρακτηριστικά “ξύλινη” Λίντα Μπλερ, αλλά αφού αγαπάμε Λίντα το καταπίνουμε αμάσητο.
Ωραία ατμόσφαιρα,συμπαθητικές σκηνές φρίκης,ωραία κλιμάκωση. Another day in the office.Εγκρίνω…
