A Blade in the Dark aka “La casa con la scala nel buio”(1983)

Με την ιαχή-τυπικό παράδειγμα του πόσο αθώο ήταν το bullying κάποτε- “you are a female” να αντηχεί ακόμα στα αυτιά του γράφοντος,ας παραθέσουμε μερικές σκέψεις για το ταπεινού προυπολογισμού πλήν απόλυτα επιτυχημένο 80ies giallo του Ιταλού σκηνοθέτη Lamberto Bava,γιού του επίσης σκηνοθέτη-στυλοβάτη του Ιταλικού genre cinema,παμμέγιστου Mario Bava.
Η πλοκή: O Bruno είναι ένας νέος,ταλαντούχος μουσικοσυνθέτης.Του έχει ανατεθεί η σύνθεση του μουσικού θέματος για μια ταινία τρόμου που γυρίζει μια φίλη του σκηνοθέτιδα.Απομονώνεται σε μια βίλλα στα προάστια προκειμένου να συγκεντρωθεί στη σύνθεση,αλλά απρόοπτες επισκέψεις και πολλά πτώματα διαταράσσουν την περισυλλογή και την προσήλωση του νεαρού μουσικού.
Υπόδειγμα σκηνοθετικής οικονομίας,αποτελεσματικής εκτέλεσης και καλώς εννοούμενου στυλιζαρίσματος,το “A blade in the Dark” είναι ένα κερδισμένο στοίχημα για το Lamberto Bava αφού καταφέρνει με το budget μιας τηλεταινίας(αυτός ήταν ο αρχικός σχεδιασμός της παραγωγής) αφενός να κάνει μια “κανονική” ταινία και αφετέρου να την καταστήσει και ένα από τα καλύτερα gialli της δεκαετίας του ’80.Το σασπένς κλιμακώνεται με στρωτό ρυθμό,η βία δεν είναι πανταχού παρούσα,αλλά όταν υπάρχει είναι στημένη με τόσο καλό τρόπο που θυμίζει την αντίληψη του Τιτάνα Dario Argento σε ταινίες της μεσαίας περιόδου του,όπως το “Tenebre”.
Μεγάλο σουξεδάκι τούτο εδώ για την εποχή του.Ο Bava θα επαναλάμβανε την ίδια επιτυχημένη προσέγγιση με όρους τηλεταινίας,στο φανταστικό “Morirai a Mezzanotte” του 1986,δυστυχώς δεν μπορούμε να πούμε το ίδιο για ανοσιουργήματα του ιδίου όπως το “Graveyard Disturbance”.
Very effective,late Giallo entry by Lamberto Bava.
A composer, working in isolation on a score for a horror movie meets two women who used to know his house’s former tenant. When the women disappear, he’s forced to look into the film he’s working on to determine what happened to them, and who’s responsible.
I bet It should have demanded respectable amounts of courage and faith by Bava to make this movie what it is.Of course the director and the production team apply a series of very important shortcuts-gimmicks that are absolutely crucial if someone wants to keep a movie budget modest.Namely:The plot revolves around a certain place (The villa),they cast as few actors as possible and they avoid the use of exterior shots opting for interior ones that are among others well-shot and create a claustrophobic feeling.
This means the formula is pretty simple,but it demands panache and craftmanship from the director and the technical unit to make it work.Undoubtedly Bava and co. succeeded in the aforementioned sector.This little flick is a very stylish exercise in the 80ies Giallo aesthetics,very close to movies like “Tenebre” by Dario Argento.The only thing that make me smile in disbelief is the ever present average performances by the cast and the ever atrocious English dubbing track of the film…
Other than that “A blade in the Dark” is a rewarding viewing experience.
Delirium aka “Le foto di Gioia”(1987)
Τα σπάω ασύστολα!!!Εκστασιάζομαι με κιτσάτη δήθεν μοδάτη 80ies υπερβολή.Τα σπάω με το γεγονός οτι η Σερένα Γκράντι(Είδωλο!!!)έκανε καριέρα(μόνο εκείνη την εποχή θα μπορούσε) και φυσικά βγάζω το καπέλο μου στο Bava,ο οποίος κατόρθωσε με συνοπτικές διαδικασίες να μας παραδώσει άλλη μια καλογυρισμένη και στυλάτη ταινία.
Η πλοκή:H Gioia πρώην πορνοστάρ,είναι πλέον ιδιοκτήτρια του περιοδικού “Pussycat”(φαντάζομαι οτι πρόκειται για περιοδικό πολιτικής ανάλυσης) ,το οποίο της κληροδότησε ο μακαρίτης ο άντρας της.Αρνείται επίμονα τις προτάσεις εξαγοράς του περιοδικού της από ανταγωνιστικό έντυπο,όταν ξαφνικά ένα προς ένα τα μοντέλα της αρχίζουν να δολοφονούνται με πληθώρα τρόπων που δε στερούνται φρικιαστικής ευρηματικότητας.Ποιος κρύβεται πίσω απ’όλα αυτά?
Ωραία πράγματα…Φανταστική,ψιλο-televisual,80ies φωτογραφία,καλοφτιαγμένες σκηνές βίας,νευρώδης ρυθμός,80ies cheese n’ sleaze και μια Grandi που ανασταίνει και νεκρούς κάνουν αυτό το φίλμ must see για τους οπαδούς του Eurocult/spaghetti horror.
Και μην ξεχνάτε…ο Διάβολος δεν κάνει πίστωση…
Another excellent late Giallo/erotic thriller/sleaze by Lamberto Bava.
This spaghetti horror’s storyline revolves around a former hooker (Grandi) running a successful men’s magazine. An obsessed admirer systematically slaughters her models (occasionally increasing the magazine’s output) and supplies the mistress with pictures of their disfigured corpses taken in front of her semi-nude posters visible in the background. Is she going to be the psycho’s next victim?
Jealousy,passion,obsession,nudity,murder,style.These are the pillars and foundation of this film and if I may say,these ingredients make Bava’s film concrete solid.
The majority of murders is quite graphic,the aura of sleaze and degradation is ever present,however oftentimes is the atmosphere pretty cheerful in an unparalleled 80ies way,as if we had to deal with an 80ies pop video.The film pacing is quite fast and the direction is very solid.In the acting department: Grandi can’t act at all,but her presence is very…ahem…charming.The presence of spaghetti horror regulars like:George Eastman,David Brandon and the lovely Daria Nicolodi definitely add to the credibility and the overall status of the film.
In conclusion,”Le foto di Gioia” is a beautiful film,an exercise in style over substance,but a very fulfilling viewing experience,especially for fans of Euro-Horror.
