White Ghost (1988)

White Ghost  (1988)

directed: BJ Davis

cast:William KattRosalind ChaoMartin Hewitt

Σε έναν κόσμο όπου υπάρχουν mainstream  ταινίες σαν το: Full Metal Jacket ,Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now!

Fairly dull and by-the-numbers war/actioner flick signed by BJ Davis, who directed the way more entertaining “Laser mission”

William Katt plays Steve Shephard, a Vietnam Green Beret who has continued to fight on alone for 15 years after the withdrawal of American forces. He’s a renegade, seeking to avenge his fallen comrades and wearing spooky, white Kabuki-style makeup (hence the title) as he wages his one man war in a Vietnamese-Cambodian border area. As the film opens, the Pentagon receives a coded signal from Shephard that he’s ready to come home. Ex-Green Beret Captain Walker (Wayne Crawford is dispatched with a team of vigilantes to find and return Shephard. The complication is that Walker and Shephard had clashed bitterly years earlier while in the same unit.

This one goes along the lines of the Marchini epic “Forgotten Warrior” but without the trashy appeal. There are some decent combat scenes and a love affair subplot, but the whole result is too generic to interest anyone else than the diehard Vietnam flick fan.

The pace tends to drag occasionally and the fact that Katt is a weak lead doesn’t do things any better. As a result the film lacks the punch that other war films have.It also isn’t trashy enough to win the fans of over-the-top war flicks.

Verdict:”White ghost” is a rather forgettable affair and exclusively addressed to 80s action fans.
